Kyntiewlang Multipurpose Society was registered in 1977, since its inception, the Society was not functioning regularly, as most of the members at that time were all engaged with their own personal work.It was only in 2005 the members felt that the Society should be revive and reorganized.
In 2005, the Society started off with Cattle Farming in a very small way and with own financial resources. Owing to lack of Funds, the Project could not function according to its expectation.Then In 2006, the Society applied for a Grant-in-Aid for Greening India from the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India [Tree and Fruit Plantation].
The Society managed to receive the Grant and started the project in 2006 at a village, Umdap Rangi in Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. The project term period is for three years 2006 to 2008 and now it is in the final phase and has benefited this village.In 2007, the Society also conducted a number of awareness programmed on Environment along with the Office of the Social Forestry Division, Government of Meghalaya,Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District, with the full support and participation of the people of Umdap Rangi Village and the surrounding Vilages. During 2006-2007 the Society has been involved in various activities under Demonstrations and Evaluation of Water Shed Based Farming System as an alternative to JhumingScheme, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. Through these activities, they have gain a lot of experience in these fields and are capable to take up any Plantation Project. During 2007, the Society participates in Fruits and Trees Plantation Programme conducted by the District Horticulture Office, Govt of Meghalaya, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District. The inputs received on Fruits and Trees Plantations Programme helps the Society to start a nursery in the same year where a variety of trees and fruits saplings has been procured from society own funds for planting and demonstration at Nongpoh. The society has also taklen up to preserve Wild Ginger Caemforia and Alpinia Kalanga and concentrated on the same to multiply. It was in 2008 that the Society after a series of consultations with many experts has decided to take up the cultivation of Bhut Jolokia [King Chili]. As the soil and climatic condition in Ri-hoi District is favourable for such cultivation and with high demand in the market, the Society is confident that the said project will be successful and benefit the people of many villages in Ri-Bhoi District. So far the Society along with the President and General Secretary has a strength comprising of 8 [Eight] members except, Co-Opt. members. The Society is now planning to include more members in the coming years. Even with the present set up, the Society is capable of talking up any project. The Society has got a lot of plans to be executed. Its main aims and objectives is to cater, help develop and meet the needs of the people of various villages to sustain their livelihood and to look into the welfare & needs of the youths in Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya.
